Please note, the global icon is an overview of funding of a global (non country-specific) benefit – such as for research efforts – that is unable to be categorized by country, but is an essential part of the response to HIV and AIDS. In 2015 this global funding represented 35% of total HIV/AIDS-related philanthropy.
- For multi-country grants, the whole amount of the grant was counted for each country as individual amounts to each country were not able to be obtained. Approximately $22m was given to multi-country grants in 2015.
- Regional grants given to Sub-Saharan Africa were counted in full to both the West & Central Africa region and the East & Southern Africa region as amounts to each individual region were not able to be obtained. Approximately $80k was given to grants specified to Sub-Saharan Africa in 2015.
- Some funders provided funding that was international in nature but unable to be categorized by country or region and is therefore not included (approximately $477k in 2015).
